I Miss You, Powerhouse! Yoknapatawpha Arts Council Events...

The Yoknapatawpha Arts Council Calendar of Events


Week of July 26th – August 1st, 2010


Main Event :


This Thursday, July 29- its the first ever Silent Movie Night from 7:30-9:30 at the Powerhouse.


Local Film Maker, Rex Harsin, is making this evening as authentic as possible- with the black and white movie style and he’s bringing in live musicians to give that ultimate classic 1920s feel. It’s a special movie night that can’t be missed! Tickets are $10 individual and $5 for students.


For anyone still interested in purchasing a raffle ticket for the designed guitar in the Seeing is Hearing Art Show (displayed in the Powerhouse) that will be given out at the end of the month – please see our website at www.oxfordarts.com. Raffle tickets are only $5!


Friday, July 30 the Oxford Park Commission presents Movies in the Parks with “Field of Dreams” showing at FNC Sports complex. OPC will set up their huge inflatable movie screen and take in a family-friendly movie. Here's the best part - IT'S FREE! So bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and movie pals and enjoy a fun filled night with OPC! The movie starts at dusk. Come early and enjoy music from local music acts.

Teacher and Student: Abstract Works of Marie Hull and Andrew Bucci is organized by the Mississippi Museum of Art and supported with funds provided by the Museum's statewide Traveling Exhibition Endowment, a fund made possible through significant private contributions matched by the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, with additional funding provided by the Mississippi Arts Commission's Arts Reinvestment Initiative.

Native Mississippian Mitchell Wright’s: The Reconstruction exhibition of enigmatic paintings and drawings was inspired by the William Faulkner short story Barn Burning (1939). Born in Winona , Wright lives and works in New York City where Faulkner also wrote his famed short story.

A look ahead into YAC Calendar events August 2nd – August 8th of 2010


Monday August 2nd, 2010 – the Oxford Architecture Exhibit will be on display in our main gallery. Local artists interpret and imagine the historic architecture of Oxford- through paintings, pictures, and mixed media.


The show will stay in the gallery until September 3rd.


Tuesday August 3rd, Troubadour Lounge returns to the Powerhouse

Thursday, August 5th- Opening night for Theatre Oxford ’s play “Barefoot in the Park”. Show starts at 7:00 pm and will run through Saturday the 7. Neil Simon’s “Barefoot in the Park”- presented live on stage by Theatre Oxford.

*Monday, August 2 – 7, the Yocona International Festival- Mississippi ’s only international folk festival brings dancers, musicians, and artists from the Netherlands and Korea .
